Earth Hour 2008

I am participating in Earth Hour 2008, which is a global movement of turning your lights off for one hour, on 29th of March, 2008. It is a symbolic gesture to recognize the significance of global warming and climate change, and on this date some cities such as Bangkok, Copenhagen, Toronto, Chicago, Melbourne, Brisbane, Christchurch, Manila etc. (click here for comprehensive list) would turn off their lights at 8pm.

You can sign up here to register your support, and tell your friends about it. Apparently Malaysians are quite responsive as we are ranked the seventh in number of supporters, following USA, Canada, Australia, UK, NZ and India. Also you can click here for the list of Malaysian businesses and schools which are participating.

By the way, I googled "climate change", and was quite surprised to find out that Malaysia actually has a group targeting climate change! It is called the CETDEM (Centre for Environment, Technology and Development Malaysia), not a very specific name is it? Anyway there are three major aspects that they work on, i.e. climate change, organic farming and sustainable energy. And apparently it has been around since 1985! Interesting, I shall read more into it.
