Interesting

I am starting to suspect that it is not my Belkin wireless router modem, but my Netgear wireless card that is giving me problems. Right now I am accessing the Internet through my sister's LAN cable.

I've finally replied all my emails so here's an interesting tidbit to ponder: Aisehman has passed the baton of 50 Posts to Independence to Daftoi of Potshots, arch enemy of Jeff Ooi who (Daftoi, not Jeff) recently focused his potshots on MarinaM. I wonder how he'll profess his love for the country and shower his contempt around the blogosphere in the same post.

Equally interesting is how panty liners are cute, dainty and scented versions of sanitary pads. I just found out yesterday and am extremely tickled for no reason.

Oh well, rushing out now and Net access in the near future may be at my Sis's discretion (of loaning the LAN cable to me or not).

Arggh rubbish rendition of the last sentence have to go now bye.

The Internet is out to get me

TIMESTAMPED 12NOON, 1ST MARCH 2007

I'm typing this on my Notepad right now as my Internet connection REFUSES to be up. I have some important mails to reply and some research to do but DAMNIT I can't connect to my wireless modem! And then when I resign to the fact that I'll never be connected, it connects for a brief while, just enough time for me to read the mails in my inbox but not to reply them!

GOSH I'm mad right now. GERAM!!!

*runs five laps around the house, bumps into teak furniture, rubs knee and runs five laps again*

I've killed my modem. Resurrection will happen later when it finally realizes who's the boss.

...

KF is going to Texas again. And he gets to go to Shanghai the week before he goes to America. Lucky bitch. The travel bug is biting again and I find myself fantasizing about all the places I could be right now instead of dealing with a merajuk-ing modem.

ONCE I finish the thesis, I'll go. At least to the beach. ‭Bali, anyone? Or Penang. Good food!!! And I miss Mel Sim so much... OK I'm definitely going to plan a trip to Penang once I finish my thesis. This has somewhat become my slogan. "Once I finish my thesis".

...

Sis has started the modem and apparently she can access the Internet through her LAN cable. I can feel the hot frustration creeping up my veins (it's at my neck now) towards my brain. This can't be healthy.

...

We went bookshopping yesterday and I got The Time Traveller's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger (what a mouthful!) and The Undercover Economist by Tim Harford. What about the research, you ask. In my desperation to find a decent definition for "media", I bought the Oxford Dictionary of Sociology. Now, is everybody happy?

I'm still snappy because I miss my connection and travelling. Once I finish my thesis!!!!

OK I'm going to try one last time to connect, if only to post this on Blogger. To hell with Belkin!!! Lifetime warranty kononnya!!!

Tuesday Morn'

I've been roaming around the cyberspace with the trusty Google Reader this morning, and looks like much has been happening whilst I was sleeping -

Boss Stewie has got his "leetle dotcom" up, it's like an agent between bloggers and advertisers. I'm curious about how the ads look like, but probably I'll have to wait till next week when advertisers take them up. Good local entrepreneurial effort though.

Rojakz and gang are holding the "Together Gather" Bloggers Party on 9th March at Federal Hotel. I totally forgot about it after it was delayed from last December. I notice the segmentation of the blogosphere from the last blog meet (that I went) with this one. I haven't decided whether to spend RM35 to eat all I can or to maintain my Friday night ritual of moulding at home.

Politikus wrote a good article on "irresponsible blogging" which in turn has me disturbed as well - I have the same concern as she does on whether the tide is bringing us towards the right direction. My stand on this - I support Bloggers United because I believe blogger solidarity is important to represent scattered blogger voices. But, as questioned by the Tikus - who are representing us, and what are they fighting for? I support Rocky and Jeff from the depths of my heart because I believe in them, and I have known them for a brief while to trust the instinct that they are Malaysians working for a better country. But if they are proven to have defamed the plaintiffs, they have to pay. NST is still a big bloody bully though.

Oh well. Back to work. La di da~

*Update*
The lively discussions at Politikus's have brought out Bloggers United's forerunners, Sheih and Susan to clarify that Bloggers United is not affiliated with WalkWithUs. Previously Politikus was commenting on WWU's irresponsible blogging.

6 Weird Things About Me

Kena tag. Me. Have to do it. Sigh. Damn you, Zewt.

To spice things up, one of the weird things about me below is false. See if you can guess which.

Weird Thing #1:
I can't remember faces. In my mind, there are silhouettes which I label as "Dad", "Mum", "That Girl from College", and their faces are blank. I've actually experienced meeting a guy for 3 times (shook hands, exchanged names and pleasantries) without knowing that it wasn't the first time I met him. That was the worst case and did not do much to enhance the guy's self-esteem.

Weird Thing #2:
I like buying makeup/perfume/toiletries but not using them. They're in such pretty colours and come with cute little vials/tubs/tubes! But beyond the purchase, they take too much time and one needs a Standard Operating Procedure to remember the sequence of application.

Weird Thing #3:
I can't sleep until I am positive that my Garfield bedspread is the right side up and facing the right direction. Lest monsters under the bed should come get me. Ahem. Of course I know monsters do not exist. But just in case.

Weird Thing #4:
I hear my own voice when singing. A lot of people don't, or else they'd notice when they go off-key. In my case, my singing's tad bit mechanical because I try to make sure every note is at perfect pitch. Leaves no room for infusing emotions, unless I'm singing a joyous song, because I'm generally happy when singing.

Weird Thing #5:
Bright pink cars on the road spell bad luck for me. So far I've lost my wallet, ran over a rat, and hurt myself a couple of times because of colour-blind car owners. So please, if you're reading this, do me a favour and go with good ol' silver, or try avoiding the Segambut/Kepong area?

Weird Thing #6:

I'm getting tired of this game. So the last one is - I used to believe that if I wished hard enough, I would become a boy. I have since ceased hoping. (Because girls get to buy pretty things)

I'm kicking this post out from the Drafts section now. *Kick*

Not tagging anyone unless you want to do it.

My First Blog Meet

I went to the blog meet at SS14 for mi rebus today. SK invited me and I RSVP-ed for myself and KF, so at 11:30am, we sidled shyly into the compound of Maria's neat little spot of a mi rebus stall with some familiar faces already there.

This is my first blog meet. It was rather different from the blog meets you always read in blogs - camwhoring, camwhoring and more camwhoring (an identifying characteristic of young, hip Malaysian bloggers), and attending bloggers were mostly older males, though cool female bloggers Nuraina and MarinaM were there. Heartening to see was a healthy mix of all races mingling together.

Got to talk to Zorro, Sheih, Nuraina and Marina. And a couple of others whom I can't remember their names and blogs. Also caught up a bit with Tony (who's helping me with my research) and Rocky. Flattered that Nuraina knew about my ill-maintained blog and it was surreal to be talking about porn and Some Big Shot's private life with the people behind the blogs. Somehow they all seemed to be post-generating (in Sheih's case, poster-generating) manbots before today.

Rocky's case has been delayed, like he said it would be, till 2nd of April because the plaintiffs amended their claims.
