Based on the vehicle we called the "Vanogan' in the US, Volkswagen never officially imported any of these into North America. (There is a story of 18 diesel versions being ordered by a Canadian oil exploration company. The story goes that the company went out of business before they could take delivery and VW sold them through a few Canadian dealerships - I can't find any conformation to this story and this would not be one of those vehicles anyway, as it's not a diesel.)
This truck has the 2.1 liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder "Wasserboxer" engine and VW's Syncro AWD system. The Syncro system was different from that used in the Quantum Syncro and was actually designed and installed by Steyr-Daimler-Puch. The engine, while water-cooled and a bit more modern than the previous air-cooled engine, is no rocket and the Doka (along with the entire T3 line) is not a quick vehicle.
This Doka is a good, driver quality vehicle. It has roughly 32,000 miles on it.It looks good sitting on its Mercedes Benz wheels. The transmission has been rebuilt (a good thing as they were trouble prone) and it has a new starter and alternator.
I'm not a huge fan of rear-engine VWs, but this is a really cool looking vehicle. If I had the unlimited storage space and unlimited car funds that I crave, this would be something I'd like to own.
At first glance, the eBay ad is confusing. The seller re-posts a description of the vehicle from when it was for sale 3 years ago and then adds an addendum to it with recent changes and updates.
